Has anyone had one of these batteries in their Harley??
I'm looking for a decent fair priced battery and found this at an acceptable price.
    12V 450CCA HARLEY DAVIDSON AGM DRY CELL BATTERY HVT1 YTX20HL-BS GYX20HL @ $166.99

Cheers mate, will follow up on that as well. The one I saw on ebay

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/273095613932
Quite similar but more expensive and specific for the 03 sporty I think.

    Exact same battery - HVT-1

I had the same SSB and it lasted only 2 years.  But I could of got a bad one... you only ever hear about the bad ones.
I buy DEKA now.  DEKA make the OEM Harley battery (Harley rebrand it) but a little cheaper on eBay without the Harley logo.
I’ve had great experiences with the OEM battery

I've only been getting 2 years from the Harley battery's for a few years now, maybe I don't look after them properly I don't know.
I asked for the SSB HVT-1 at the battery shop, the man said no worries but they can be hit and miss, he recommended the RTX20L-BS, he reckon even though it's only 400CCA compared to the HVT-1's 450 CCA they are having a better run from them, time will tell on that.

Thats the battery, I put in my 03 sporty, has some performance work and higher comp. the HD agm had 370cca, it started to sound like it was having trouble turning motor over to fire up. so got this SSB with 450CCA AGM type, one touch of button bursts into life..

Changed the battery on my 08 softail in 2017 not because it was dead, just thought it was working harder to start the bike and did not fancy getting caught out on a long ride in the middle of no where. The battery shared a trickle charger with a few other bikes.
Anyway was talking to a bloke who also has a 2008 softail the other day who STILL has the original working  battery in his bike and it has never seen a trickle charger.

My 96 sporty battery went to 2003, never seen a charger, the wideglide went from 06 untill 2012, then it was one every couple of years or thereabouts, this is the 3rd battery in my 16 slim, late 15 delivered, 17 changed and again now.

I guess there are several things to consider.
Maybe a cooler climate is better suited to long battery life.
Also ones riding habits. If you ride to work each day and work is only a few ks away your battery is not going to recoup the charge it takes to start it each ride etc.

I did notice with the wideglide that the work ride would slowly pull the battery down and used the charger to top it up now and then, the sporty spent most of its life in Kalgoorlie, could argue it's a different climate to North Queensland I guess but the wideglide was Mackay delivered and Townsville housed, for its first year I was working at Century, 2 weeks on 1 week off so it didn't get ridden a lot in that time, maybe I'm wrong but they just don't seem to last as well as they used to and I really can't see how I'm doing anything majorly different.

big motor's high comp, take more out the battery starting. stock small motors don't take much out battery to start. weather conditions all play a part. but longest lasting battery was on my kick start only shovel, that never needed a battery tender & motor was hi performance 98 cubic inch 11.6 quarter mile ride anywhere ( just had to keep checking everything tight ) But that bike also had a battery explode while I was riding, it kept going but I could smell acid smell blew whole back off battery, breather hose got blocked.

Them old wet vented batteries could be bastards Krash, seen many a rusted bike from vent gas routed wrong.
I agree that higher comp would have to reduce life somewhat, add to that with the newer bikes all the electronic shit sipping away when it's not running, my slim has been a many crank to start bike from brand new, I've had several different calibrations in the ECM and that has never changed, that would add to the problem not doubt, the comp releases work though, checked them many times.

I’m not sold on the whole deka make  harley Oem battery’s
A few years back in a other thread about battery’s
I mentioned that I had a used deka gray ,  used Oem
And a ssb on the bench  and the Oem and  ssb
Looked exactly the same except no logo on the case
The deka looked different   Plus cca where a lot different

Deka was 310 cca. I think
Oem.    No body could tell me  harley included the net  people reckon 370cca
    Ssb      Is 425cca
    Evo spec battery’s
Tc are bit higher I think
Than there is redline agm battery’s two on flebay  a few years ago looked
The same as ssb - Oem harley in the pics but price was like $100
I mentioned it to a other member at the time as he needed a new one
But have no personal experience with them

Have you tried getting a price from godchild batteries P/hog? they're very good on price normally and would be

interested to know whether the ebay seller is cheaper.

I asked Batteryworld  for prices on the YTX20HL Yuasa and Motobatt and they were $279 and $234 respectively. Harley battery prices are through the roof, I remember when Motobatt was the cheap alternative, looks like it's now SSB @ $166 or with the Ebay discount $150.
With the 425 or 450 cca it's got to be a better deal all round.
