Great photo Mickle.   I've ridden that road too.  Awesome.  Have stopped at the Whitfield pub for a beer too (great outdoor seating area - beer garden).

I like that road too. Reluctantly stayed for the night at the Hotel in Moyhu once...and had a whale of a time.
There is a touristy looking turn off to "Stringybark creek" between Whitfield and Mansfield that got me wondering if it was worth taking?.
There is another road that goes from south of Mansfiled to Eildon. The road of a million corners, with deer.

It is a great ride. Powers Lookout is impressive.

Today was a beautiful sunny day in Melbourne. 22 deg , no wind, not a cloud in the sky.

Took a ride from Greensborough, via Wallan, Romsey, to Heathcote - about an hour and half.
Gotta say, the road from Wallan to Romsey is one of the best roads near Melb - about 1hr from Melb.
Its about 25ks long, windy enough, really good surface, 100k speed limit , little traffic
Romsey to Lancefield is a bit ho-hum, then a pretty good high speed ride to Heathcote.
My go-to ride is Yarra Glen to Yea via switchback at Glenburn, and back thru Flowerdale , again thru Glenburn switchback. Its OK but now ruined by 80 k zones which used to be 100k zones and HEAPS of double white lines and few dotted lines. But the food is good at Yea pubs. Can also go back thru Tallarook. Yea - Tallarook road is also good.
What other day rides from Melb deserve a mention?
Other cities should also give there best riding roads out of town.

Hi Ged, It was one of the best riding days of the year so far. Weren't we lucky to be able to take advantage of it. I live in the inner east, and took a ride out to the Yarra valley via Christmas Hills ( a very good ride 18kms of twisties  through forest close to Melb) Then bypass Yarra Glen and rode out on the Steels Creek road till it turned to gravel, then returned back to the office.
One of my favourite rides is Arthurs seat to Cape Schank via Main Ridge, then to Flinders and back to Arthurs Seat. It's about an hour loop, with some beautiful scenery, magnificent forest roads, some excellent twisties and hills. Climbing Arthurs seat on a big bike the last hair pin is so tight it switches back on itself, its a balance challenge, as the road cambers steeply into the gutter.

Cracker of a pic. Is that smoke or mist?  (guessing smoke?) I'm adding this road to my list

Hey Moss, sounds like a scenic ride with a bit of everything, will have to get down there one day. But only an hour loop? I'm only just beginning to settle in with the bike after an hour, takes at least half a tank used before head clears!

Hey WG, I hear you man. An hour is too short. I didn't factor in the time to get there. You need to add an hour from Melbourne. Making it a 3 hour ride if your base is Melbourne.

I know that road, that’s near my place.  I love riding my motorcycle as a form of transport when I want to go somewhere.  But just going for a ride for the sake of riding is really boring to me.  Am I missing something? I liked riding aimlessly when I got my licence 25 years ago. I’m worried I’ve lost my passion for cutting laps :(

My conclusion ...I think I drive too much when I’m at work, and it ruins my Weekend ride time unfortunately.  The last thing I want is to be on the road again!!!

I ride to/from work everyday doing the mirror-maze in traffic. 50Ks/day.
When the boys have a weekend ride planned, I’m always up for it. Just to ride somewhere without so many cars is great.

Depends on the weather, and my frame of mind. I often ride for the sake of it.  I view it as ride fitness. Building up concentration and seat stamina for those adventures when I do long haul interstate trips
