Needed a pink slip for the 2011 FXDC so figured that I combine that with a service - been a year and now at 32K. Dealer called today and told me I need new pads in front, a new disk in front, fresh brake oil, and new steering bearings. Quoted $1100 for that.
now the pads is OK, brake flush I can kind of go with (bloody DOT4) but a disk and bearings?? Even then - $1100 + the service on top??

Guess I'll have an interesting discussion when I pick it up...

better dust the tools off and start doing the work myself again.

Another call - wheel bearings shot as well....

if yours is ABS I would Def let them do the flush, air in there is a bitch. Not sure but isn`t your fluid Dot 5? if your disk is warped possibly wear pads out uneven ,1100 $ does sound excessive I call Stealers if it was me get them to do flush ,do the rest yourself

Steering bearing at 32,000 is not right unless you ride unsealed roads all the time.  Get them to show you the steering test they are doing and if they are buggered then go to a good indie shop.

last of the non-ABS' - but the factory went from DOT5 to DOT4 in preparation of ABS which doesn't work well with the Silicone based DOT5. I can see I have DOT4 as the paint of the master cylinder has been eaten away - stealers always tightening the lids to tight causing leaks...
I'll check the parts they take off - I really don't trust them there....

very minimal unsealed - but Sydney's love of speed humps might actually be worse for the bearings. I did ask them to do the "fall away" test as I has the feeling the bearings where to loose - but as I didn't feel any play I would have expected maybe a bit of tightening, not replacement of the bearings... Will check the races to see if that was indeed needed...
any suggestions for an indie shop here in Sydney??

    thnx

Confirm the fall away test.  I'm Melbourne based so no help on an Indie.

Hi guys. Keen to know how the ‘fall away’ test is done.
    Thanks

understand that - but if they did unnecessary work I'll make sure they get some free advertising...
Used to do the work myself - too much special tools needed today. Could do the top end of my evo with just a torque wrench - now cannot even do a cam on this twinkie without special bearing pullers and plates. The bill this time however will make me do my work myself again ;-)

First off, great bike, the fxdc to me was the pick of the late dyna's, simple and elegant with classic lines, I mean that, however the rest, well, you said you have skills, Evo etc, so, you got a bit slack and you got bit, you are having a vent and fair enough, I mean that stung, no special tools required for basic maintenance, no abs so a brake flush is basic, dot 4 or whatever, pads and disc are not a drama, torque wrench, hand tools.
Head bearings, well if you stay on top of them they go awhile but a bit of threaded rod and a punch takes care of new ones, I get you are pissed off but I reckon more at yourself than the dealer ;) we all get time poor but them buggas don't miss ya wallet.

I flushed mine myself the old fashion way.  Stealer left a tonne of bubbles in there.  Cycled fluid through many times but it somehow worked *phew*

    I agree 100%.  Seems a little premature
