Really curious as to how the ABS works on the 2009 models and up. Do you still have to work both hand and brake lever in unison? Or just either or?
And do they really make much difference?

No the brakes are independant. ABS is the biggest safety improvement on a motorcycle. Yor able to grab a fistfull of front brake in the rain and remain upright

Keep in mind that ABS isn’t so great on dirt/gravel where having the wheels dig in can be a good thing. I.e Adventure bikes I’ve ridden had switchable ABS.

I was looking at the abs unit on my slim, seems it's only on the front., I always thought it would be linked and both front and back would be controlled.

    Thanks for the comments guys.
So if I understand it correctly, front and back brakes are not linked. The ABS simply prevents the brake from locking up - which is certainly great in panic situations.

Is ABS fitted on both front and rear brakes? Or does that vary by Model as seems to be the case mentioned by Ashman.

Abs is on both wheels, never only on one wheel. It is fairly important you blokes know about this. Please research or read your owners manual.

    I thought the same.
I know there's speed sensors on both wheels but looking at the abs controller on the front and tracing the rear lines it only goes from the reservoir to the caliper. Maybe there's a rear controller I'm not seeing.

Edit. Found it. I looked the exploded view.... It's behind the swingarm mount.

Linked braking on a motorcycle is dangerous. there are times you want to use a rear brake only and any application of front brake could result in a lockup even with ABS or possibly sliding if not locked up, same result - you're stuffed. These things are only useful for riders that are not proficient in emergency braking on large capacity motorcycles that they ought not to be riding due to lack of experience.
