earbuds

At the moment I'm using a pair of Flare Audio "Isolate" earbuds that do a great job of cutting down the wind noise but let me hear what's going on (as well as on the bike I use them at motorsport events when I'm marshalling, and they work really well) but... I miss not being able to listen to music and occasionally shout at Waze to tell it just tried to navigate me down a closed road!
The Backbeat Go bluetooth headset I have isn't that comfortable under my full-face (the ear pieces stick out a bit far) and the wind attenuation isn't great. Wondering if anyone has any good suggestions ... wired or wireless (my latest phone has dumped the 3.5mm jack for USB-C/Bluetooth), comfort and hearing protection more important that audio quality. Not going to be taking calls when I'm riding, so a mic is a nice to have (really just for the Waze use case)

Bose QC 20 Noise Cancelling for me.  Listen to music but also has a toggle switch to enable mic to route to ears so you can hear things.  They fit very nicely under the helmet with no problems.

Interesting on the QC20s ... I'd have thought they's stick out from the ear a bit and get squished by the padding in the helmet... might have to take another look if they're 'slimline'. Was looking at something more like this as they seem to be super flexible around the ear ... but the QCs would be way more useful in everyday life as well - thanks!

Folks I know I seem to be flogging finnmoto but they sell a "spare" helmet headset and boom / internal fixed microphone which have a 1/8 inch plug. I've got one on my helmet instead of the Harley branded headset. It's softer and allows me to plug it into the blutooth headset (one bike) and an adapted fixed cable (the other).
All you will need is an extension cable to get it to the phone
    and
    normal earplugs

looks interesting, but not sure it's exactly what I'm after - unless what I'm after is dumb, and I'd be better off with speakers like these inside the helmet and continue to use earplugs to keep the wind noise out.

I don't really like the idea of anything additional on the outside of the helmet (or in the foam to reduce it's ability to do what it needs to do) but open to advice from folks who've been rocking alternatives and not had issues (and happy to take recommendations on retailers!)

Not dumb at all. What you “want” are the custom earmold earplugs with speakers inbuilt. No need for noise cancellation as they fill the ear canal. Wired or Bluetooth. Previous member Chinashop bull used to swear by them.
I think you can get em with additional mic. Expensive. Google
This is a far cheaper option for motorcycle comms / music
Earplugs go in (or not around town)
    Helmet goes on
    Connect the cable

Ear mold Australia is what I use and does exactly what the op wants without issue

Also use Earmold, formed just for your ears, stops alot of wind noise.
Mine can be plugged in to phone for music but lately I prefer no music as I like to hear whats what car drivers around me are up to.

I also have the Bose QC20's, they cut-out a lot of wind noise & so if you play music through them you don't need the volume as high, so hearing is further protected.
