Take it to the track

Has anyone taken their Harley to a track day? My missus has a Street 500 and is very interested in lets just say pushing her bike a little further than the local constabulatory would appreciate. She is still only on her provisionals but she rides to work, an 80km round trip every day in all weather so she's a pretty confident rider. I think it would be a good experience and help with her cornering, road position, etc. I'd also love to do a few laps.
If anyone has done it, would love to know more; Where did you go? How expensive was it? Do you need leathers? etc, etc
Any info or recommendations would be greatly appreciated...

Birtyyy sounds like a good idea. I would contact the track your planning on going to, find out all details, on what your required to wear so on.but I would expect leather pants leather jacket, motor cycle boots gloves & a full face helmet that meets the standards. but some might have different requirements for different size or power bikes. so contact the track.

Yeh I've checked out the Philip Island website and they require full leathers which we don't have but you can hire them for $85 so that's fine.

Well if you hire make sure they are one piece as if go for a slide with two piece Leathers the jacket can go up & expose your back ( gravel rash not fun!! ) Phillip Island would be great. I was talking to a guy other day who was interested in doing Wakfield Park, was snowing there Tuesday morning.

Not on a Harley but numerous times on a sports bike, a street 500 should be alright though. A guy from work did do some track days on his Sporty years ago.
It's great fun, much safer than the road and great for confidence. Just be wary not to get too much as it can get very expensive and painful when you run out of talent.

Check out whoever handles track days in your area, they'll give you all the info you need.

Edit: Sorry a couple of posts landed while I was typing this. Phillip Island used to require one piece leathers, I imagine they still would. Other tracks/track day organisers might let you get away with a jacket and kevlar jeans.

yeah, full saftey gear that meets the track specs and is up to date + a bike with no oil leaks; so that rules out my FXR...lol
And no point in racing the 883L as it cannot corner without grinding away...sigh

I did a BEARs race day in the past and it was a blast.... me and a mate deliberately started last and had a great battle between ourselves, while the rest all raced for a win; so there was no risk of us getting caught up in the fight for the prize.

good point about oil leaks. also think Harleys would need the crank case breather hose, going into a catch can.
