Air Bag on your Harley Paul?
I've driven a lot of K's in trucks Utes & cars that all had air bags but have never had one go off, but as they say. better to have it & not need it than need it & not have it. If HD have them I would have thought MDB would have set one off.

Pfft.  Wifes BMW had drivers airbag replaced as per recall. Two weeks later they wanted it back to replace the passengers airbag. Within two weeks we were notified that they would need replacing again within 5 years as they were being replaced with same as was removed.

    Gotta be kidding me!

To be balanced with your dismissal of the recall ,your aware why the original was swapped out with the same airbag.....?

Not dismissing the recall Pauly, good on 'em. Just puzzled why they didn't do both on the same day. 100km round trip to the dealer for me and half a day wasted, twice.

Rather have a "wasted" day and be safe than mourning a poor decision to not get them replaced. At least BMW are far more pro active that the other recall brands

BMW pay the stealers to replace the airbags. It would be more efficient and therefore charge back less money to do all airbags at once.
My local Honda stealer did exactly the same thing.

Not sure why you/me as a consumer would worry what the cost between importer or dealer is under a recall......WHO CARES? In this instence BMW are buying your old car from you, and or paying a hirecare for you while you wait.......and your complaining about how much it costs BMW

Not complaining about getting airbags replaced. Just they could have done it in one visit.

My explanation above is why they did it in two visits.

Nobody cares about BMW’s, or in my case Honda’s costs.

The dealer may be scamming the MoCo,  but greatly inconvenienced me. No hire car or alternative vehicle provided.

I would rather be "greatly inconvenienced" than dead! Thats permanently inconvenient. When was your recall done?

So we are talking two totally separate recalls here

Seems so. Haven’t kept up with the news but i just read there is a second type of Takata airbag in the BMWs. Different to the type of Takata airbag that was recalled for almost every other MoCo previously.
Seems the others may have killed us whereas the BMW one will kill you. At least that’s how they’re treating the recall.

My initial comment centred around the fact that ALL the major manufacturers use the Takata airbags in their various forms yet have done nothing like BMW have . Seems as though corporate lawyers for the remaining brands have risk assessed that the civil suite and subsequent loss would be far less than a total recall of vehicles in the event of a claim/s.

Well a update.....BMW called and advised that the vehicle was being moved to a secure compound covered by their insurance and the plates can be removed and the rego refunded. The hire car continues, brand new Subaru XV, and at this stage its between 12-18 months wait. You do the maths here at even $50 per day for the hire car.....
