Soft are you sure? 2.99% comparison is very good but it ain’t what is being advertised.

Saying that, anything below 4% is good in my books.

Sorry, my mistake. You're right JFE, is was 2.90.

Yes HOG, she said "we only live once" and "we have worked all our lives so why not have what we want".

Hey JFE, where did you pull this from mate? Harley Australia or from a dealer site?

Canberra HD mate. They are owned by Morgan & Wacker so the deal is at least with a number of shops. May be wider?

Interesting. I've been dealing with a dealer here in Sydney offering the deal.

Soft mate, before you sign on the dotted line try and ride as many models as you can, I have mate and just to give my opinion a bit of depth I've been riding sporty's, dynas and softails for over 20 years, these new softail M8's are a good thing but there is a lot guff about just how good, some of them are really good platforms to work from though, unfortunately from my perspective the Fatboy and the breakout just don't cut it as riders bike and just wouldn't be on my short list after riding the other models available, my opinion only mate and you did ask for them.

Hi Hilly, yes mate, I asked for opinions and appreciate you took the time to respond. Yeah, when I test rode the Fatty yesterday, the sales guy rode a breakout and asked if I wanted to have a ride of that. Having coming from a Fatty, I was set on another Fatboy but should have had a ride of others. Sleeping on it overnight and the fact the 2.90% was not all it was cracked up to be, I think I will put the thought of a new bike on hold until I look into others a bit more. Thanks for for input.

Went and test rode the M8 Fatboy. Acceleration is incredible. Apparently the fly by wire throttle response is adjustable via software and would explain the either throttle off or on power response on this demo bike. It had Vance and Hines slip on's with stage one tune and throttle response turned up to either on or off. Very smooth to ride with no vibrations. Engine quieter that earlier engines. Gear changes were clunky with neutral being hard to get when stopped. Salesman said the clutch needed adjusting accounting for the clunk and hard to hit neutral. Harder to go round corners than my Fatboy due to the big back tyre, something that a rider would have to get used to. Power and torque is something else. Turn the throttle and it just goes. Fatboy engine is a wet sump now, unlike before having the oil tank and dry sump. Heads are cooled by oil (I thought they were water cooled) with 2 oil lines going across the top of the heads. Overall the bike is impressive, but the quoted changeover price dulls that impressive.

Seems the 2.99% isn't all it's dressed up to be. I'm going to talk further with the salesman tomorrow so won't say anything about it now.
Thanks to the people giving me their feedback.

The clunking and hard to find neutral are the same on my 107 Sport Glide. It seems to be improving though. Not sure whether that's because I'm getting used to it, or it's bedding in.
I was previously used to a dry clutch bike(Moto Guzzi) that behaved very differently with clutch and gears so I'm still relearning the finer points.

You should ride some of the other softails. Each has its own characteristics when it comes to handling and ride. I like the USD forks and the moderate tyre sizes on the Sport Glide. There are some that are even more skewed towards going fast and some that are sjlkewed towards a comfy ride, and yet others that are simply designed to look badass in the traditional Softail manner.

Thanks to all those who have replied. I am pretty sure I'll keep the Fatboy, although I saw a nice 2018 Heritage pull into a petrol station while fueling up my car the other day. I might have a look at one of those, as Hilly said try and ride a few different bikes.

Good idea mate. If it ain’t screaming ‘buy me’ why do it. HD’s aren’t in short supply...
