    Gday all
So I purchased a 2nd hand 2013 Softail standard only mod is exhaust that I put on.
What I need advice on is the following , I will try and make this as clear as possible
For the last week I have had a sound from primary case area which sounds  like a chain or bearing spinning with no load on it , over the last few days it has become louder as I can hear it as I past full body trucks on the motorway each morning.
this afternoon I can feel a vibration in foot pegs , seat and handle bars.
It comes on from 1800 rpm both on acceleration and decelleration.
Also the clutch is sometimes just as the lever is released and sometimes lever all the way out before it engages

    Any ideas ???

    Thanks in advance

Assuming you have no warranty pop the primary cover off and see what falls out, could be clutch hub bearing failing.

Christ, I would had the primary cover off at the first 'new noise'.  These things get bloody expensive bloody fast the longer they are left.

I had a mate come over and we were talking about the bike he had  a listen and he mentioned the clutch clunks when engaged he thinks it shouldn't be so loud.
Do they clunk when engaged loud enough to hear it over the loud pipes

They all clunk... You can hear my Sporty go into first gear from the other side of the traffic lights.
Just open the damn thing up...its only a few bolts and the anticipation is killing me.

Dare I say rear wheel bearing?

Due to hearing the chain / bearing spinning sound while the bike is at idle  I'm not looking at wheel bearings.

Sorry I'm not talking about the clunk as 1st gear is selected
The clunk we herd was sitting at idle with the bike in gear and letting the clutch lever out and pulling back in quick
Like popping the clutch , the lever in and out  quickly.

I purchased MPP with the bike from the shop so unable to open it up , I'll let the Harley dealer deal with it

Hey Kris, it's not difficult to inspect inside there. But if you aren't comfortable with looking in there yourself, my advice would be don't ride it anymore before the HD guys look at it, I wouldn't even start it up to diagnose as you have been.
Get it trailered to the dealer workshop.

Cheers mate will do , I'm definitely no bike mechanic and it being my 1st Harley I'd rather leave it to the professionals.

For now I have an 883 to ride they were kind enough to let me use.

    Got the bike back....
So the 2 top mechanics at the Harley shop both rode my bike and they say nothing is wrong with it and they can't hear anything ....
With the vibration I feel from 2100 rpm , I was told to ride in a lower gear than I have and have the revs up high they say 3rd gear at 60k's.
I must be labouring the motor and gearbox I was told.

Anyway a service is on the cards so ill pop the primary case and have a look.
Even my mum can hear the noisy spinning chain sound at idle.

Maybe there isn't anything wrong with it. How could 2 top mechanics be wrong?.
A louder set of pipes might help put your mind at ease.
it has become louder as I can hear it as I past full body trucks on the motorway each morning. Generally this is what happens even when there is nothing wrong with your bike. The sound bounces right off the truck and back into your ears. Bet you don't hear it if you go for a spin out on the Hay plains.
