My FXST plans

So next week I’ll have my new to me softail standard, last if they carbed models.
I’ve been wanting a bike to chopperise that’s not vintage (I have neither the skills or budget to run an old bike unfortunately), I’ve been surprised to find some killer customs based on softails.
The sporty peanut tank is a drop in kit from a company in Japan. Still hate the sprung seats though, need to find a way to mod up the tail end.

I like that concept mm. Good luck with your plans.

First part of the puzzle arrived.. all aluminium. It’s a complete ‘bolt on’ tank for up to 2006 softails from easyriders japan, just released in dec. I also saw their bolt on rear fender kit which is just available, but it wasn’t my thing.

Nice looking TIG work; make sure its been pressure testing and lined etc.
You do realise your going to get sweet FA milage out of that tank..lol...may pay to keep a small 1litre drink bottle somewhere as backup.
I wanted a similiar look for the Sporty, but its a total bastard getting a good looking tank for an EFI bike as the pump takes up SO much room (and external pumps are just plain messy.

Yeah this bike isn’t really for distance, I’ve got my wideglide for that, want to make this thing a bit more stripped down.
Having said that, the tank is 6.3l which is about 1/3 a normal setup, so I’m guessing 100km per fill?

And part 2.. while I’m aware all the other bikes have swing mounted fenders, I still want to carry a passenger so went with this low profile semi k&q seat, plan on modifying the rear fender and rails.

Combination of spare time and lower funds definitely changes perspective and forces you to chop what ya got instead of buying bolt on premade.
Been photoshopping this up, already own the peanut tank, bike is getting the +2” tubes, chop the front and rear existing guards, chop the headers and put on $200 worth of mufflers. Paint, aircleaner and the sissy bar are the only things I’d need to buy. Super budget build. Oh and bars, but until it starts coming together it’s hard to know what would work.
And no frame chopping, nothing really irreversible.

God damn that is cool. That’s really doing something for me.
Good luck with it Mow, I’d stick to the original plan, save ya biscuits and go hard to get it like the examples you originally had in mind, that style is hard to beat!

Do something with the bars as well though... the look is a bit off with the taller stock ones.

First step done, +2 front end dropped a little at the rear, new bars and we chopped the exhaust.
Still need to fit the tank and chop the rear guard, but so far the bikes handling is massively improved and sounds mean as fck.
    Gotta sort those indicators too

Well done mm. May I ask. Why the rubber fork boots?

Mainly because I had some and figured while the legs were being done try em out, if I don't like them its way easier to remove them than add them. A lot of the wideglide bikes from the late 70s and early 80s seemed to have them. I'm not sold on them either.. having said that the rear end is way too low as well, but until I get that rear guard chopped its really hard to tell how it'll balance out.
Aircleaner is also a lot larger than I thought it would be, have to wait and see when the tank is replaced.

Good on you MM. May I make a suggestion to move the indicators and brackets to "under" the triple tree. I did it on the deuce. Seems to optically lower the nose. That way if you want to you can fit one of those clip on screens.

I’m hoping to get rid of the indicators, was planning those tiny under controls led things but the zed bars proved very very difficult to get wires through so we couldn’t get them in!
But.. razor blades the boots off.. too much going on at the front.
But I have to say I’m stoked on my $350 exhaust system:D, thought outside the box and got something really unique, easy enough to put another angled one on the bottom.

Looks good!  Not convinced with the air cleaner cover though - recon an S&S teardrop would look mint.

Mr Mow, now that is looking great, really nice. Always a a buttin, my own personal opinion. Just chucking it out there.
The exhaust, Love the top or rear angle, but the lower looks like someone stepped on it, and came out 'straight'.
If was my bike I'd flow along the rear exhaust line, if you know what I'm saying, front ex up to side by with rear.
Just remember riding my cousins 1969 chopper in 1971, for a while, hard tail with too small exhausts .80 mph was choked.
    It is looking good.

With a bunch of swearing, drilling and general shoddy workmanship.. it appears a dyna sissy bar will fit.
