    Hi
This just came to my mind. What is the rule (in Victoria) if I make a rego plate myself? Say my rego number is 12345, I find a piece of wood/plastic and paint the number on it exactly same porportion like the original?

    If this is allowed, then...

What if I reduce the size of the plate supposing the police camera, tollway camera still can recognize it?

    a further question...
What if I just paint a expired credit card black and write the number on it. For the tollway camera, I can't think of why it cannot recognize it? the original plate looks small too anyway?

Hey i think your on to something here......maybe put your full face helmet on back to front when you ride as it stops that annoying wind noise. Added bonus is the government wont be able to use face identification recognition to prosecute you over the false rego plate. Let us know how you go

Yeah, a piece of wood for a numberplate, maybe a piece of fence paling, use ceiling white paint with a 1" paintbrush to write 12345 - should look fantastic. You'll get alot of attention & comments, even by the police.

    No you can’t.. just no.

The main roads department for each state are the only  authority authorised to issue number plates. The plates remain  the departments property.
    Just pinch somone else's.

Won’t know until you try it, I suppose.
Reminds me of the old yarn of the bloke that took a parking fee off ppl for 20 years. He stopped turning up to ‘work’ one day and ppl asked the council what’s the story. Turned out it was a bloke with someone else’s vacant lot making the $$.

... you won’t know until you try.

Not as silly a concept as it sounds. In Australia, yes it isn't anything like legal.
In the UK, you go to the local Auto supplies store (Halfords is a common one) give them the number you want and they print it for you onto a set of regulation plates.

There are strict rules about colour, reflectivity, size and font, but the responsibility for showing the correct details is yours. I can't remember whether or not they ask for evidence of the correct registration before they print them for you, but I suspect not.

I had to have a new one made for my car when I was there after the original one was lost.

I think some replies just misunderstood.
    1. I am not going to make random number on the plate, of course, it will be my real rego;
    2. One of my questions is, does the plate really have to be the one you pay $250 sent by vicroad? what if I made one myself with exactly the colour and the number. or can the plate be plastic? or wood?
    3. and my further question is does the plate has to be exact size of vicroad one? what would happen say if my I made one with 1cm short in length and width, or 2cm less? if 1cm less cause the speed camera unable to recognize it, then it is illegal. But if the speed camera, tollway cameras, the plate recognition devices on police cars have no problem reading it, then why can't I use it? ...to downsize it a little bit to make my rear fender better?

micathia, know where your coming from, I think.
Why the hell can't you create a number plate, I for one like the idea, why the fuck do we all have to be unifiorm?
OK, I know because that's just the way it is, well fuck it, 'I'm not gunna take it anymore!'.
Mr.Mow would be my choice of design and manufacturer, if it was possible, and, if he accepted the task . There would be some beauties out there, long as they conform to colour, size of digits and numerals, and overall uniform size, with given reflective qualities, and,  well might just buy one off the rack.
