    Hey micathia, I got around the size problem by buying a personalised plate consisting of one letter and one number (SA reg). The resulting plate was much narrower horizontally than the normal plate though the same height. I also mounted it lower on the guard with a LED numberplate light (check the regulations in your state for minimum distance from the ground). Hope this helps
    Cheers, Will

    I think some replies just misunderstood.

    1. I am not going to make random number on the plate, of course, it will be my real rego;
    2. One of my questions is, does the plate really have to be the one you pay $250 sent by vicroad? what if I made one myself with exactly the colour and the number. or can the plate be plastic? or wood?
    3. and my further question is does the plate has to be exact size of vicroad one? what would happen say if my I made one with 1cm short in length and width, or 2cm less? if 1cm less cause the speed camera unable to recognize it, then it is illegal. But if the speed camera, tollway cameras, the plate recognition devices on police cars have no problem reading it, then why can't I use it? ...to downsize it a little bit to make my rear fender better?

     I say again, The main roads authourity in each state are the only ones who are authorised to issue registration plates.
     This means you can't do it. It has to be the size and colours  issued by them.
    Just make the mudguard bigger, it will look smaller then.

    And fit a 300mm tyre, no one will even notice your numberplate then.
