Someone in Harley management must have a long term secret agenda to screw things up.
Not logical you hear stupid things they did one by one in the past two years. Keep telling people "we want new generations", scaring them off with rediculous prices, then keep giving new models old names that young generation don't really care and keep showing old generations the new model don't have exactly what you are after.

I don't understand how hard to make rear fender, front wheel and tank same like this one.

Yes I think you’re correct, there doesn’t seem to be any strategic planning.

why they stopped making the Softail STD a few years back I never understood.
It always had that look and stance that just stood out

I’m sure Australia had Softail Standard until around 2015.  And everywhere else lost the Softail Custom around 2010.  The rest of the world must be missing this model.
I don’t have a problem with this new Softail Standard... but call it something else!

+2  There are certain styling attributes that mark each iconic line (Softail, FXR etc)
Some budget pencil pushing Vegan seems to have gotten the keys to design now.

Nice one Smokey!. Betcha wish you still had that.
I agree the late ones got fat. Guess they are designing them for the average fatter person these days.
A 130 wide back tyre makes much more sense than a 200. So much sweeter through the corners. Balanced mine with a wider rim on the front so it can take a 120 front tyre or even a 130 if a suitable fender could be found.

I have a 2011 softail standard with the 200mm rear tyre.  I’ve always preferred the look of the narrow rear end... but alas I’ll have to live with my 200.  Funny most people want to go wider, Id rather go thinner!

I have wished that since I sold it in 1994. It went to a guy in Whyalla and the serial was 1HD1BHL15GY017436 so if anyone knows if it still exists today, let me know.

Gee!, maybe you'd be better off to keep on the lookout for one from the same year with really low miles on it Smokey. Things do pop up if you are looking.
1994 is a fair while ago, it might be shattering to find your old bike now.

If it were reduced to just a frame and a set of cases I'd still make an offer. Long shot I know, but strange things happen on the internet.

I will end up with another late 80's or early 90's Softy at some point, the Widey is fine but TC's just don't have the same feel. It does have ABS, and grunt, but that's about it.

1994 was just yesterday!  I may even remember fragments of it if pressed.
