yeah mate that is the tricky part.
I have been dabbling in the stock market since just after the Global Financial Crisis with varying degrees of success and losses but I am pretty sure I have lost money.

I keep a keen eye on the market now and about 3 or 4 months ago I got a feeling there would be a correction of some sort so I changed my investment strategy in my SUPER FUND.  I moved from high growth to 50% direct property and 50% stable growth.  The account is down 4% over the last month but it could have been a lot worse.

Nobody can pick the bottom but my plan is to wait for 6 or 12 months to see how things settle down  and then change the SUPER strategy back in to the high growth.

What I have learned over the years is there is a shitload of luck involved. You dont necessarily need good luck but you absolutely dont need bad luck.

Might be an appropriate time to wish everyone the best of luck in these challenging times.    Very best of luck everybody and lets try to look after each other.

Me too, alot longer actually....................for a while there I was following Warren Buffets advice and buying when there is a crash..................1 x example I remember clearly was when I sold my personal car when the crash hit, I had 30k cash and bought 15k of ANZ shares @ $14.50, one week later the share price went down to $12.50 and I bought another 15k worth..................my mates all calling me an idiot and working out how much I had lost and reminding me, remember real losses are when you sell which I had no intentions of doing........................1 x year later the share price was around $22, a few years later I had doubled my money, still have them shares now, also picking up dividends every 6 x months, currently paying about 6.5%, share price today $16.72

I only hold Blue Chip Companies which is less risk IMO

Rivo blue chips go up and down with the market as well depending on a range of issues . As i constantly say....You've lost NOTHING provided you don't sell. If you get caught up in the fear of it all and sell your going to lose!

Excellent strategy Rivo, If your cash allows top up in the lows, that's good consistent return @6% , the company I work for have a salary sacrifice option to buy shares over the course of the year and I don't miss the contribution from my pay monthly another way to accumulate, also not taking the cash when it comes to dividend time, just reinvesting, a compounding interest scenario.

Its not all doom and gloom out there as portrayed in the media, just another speed hump on life's journey.
