G,day all .. just so wondering what would be the best type of lighting just for the purpose of cleaning , cleaned my bike inside the garage the other day and it looked great until I wheeled it outside in the sunlight .. then it looked shite and a whole bunched of marks and water stains .. anybody tried any different types of lighting for cleaning ?

well, I don't know if this is the best for cleaning. but have a LED fluro replacement that is real bright if you had two long ones spaced out, it would be hard to beat ( if you can't see then, go to spec savers )

I have old school fluro tubes, but use true daylight tubes, not warm or cool white.
Led is great option too, but check the spectrum specs beforehand.

You still won't be able to see everything properly with any type of room lights.
I swear by using an LED headlamp with focus adjuster for a wider spread, that way you can see what you're cleaning under bike & in nooks & crannies.

Overkill. User leaf blower to get rid of water between fins and instruments, switches nooks crannies. Just chamois off paint and chrome. No way should you get water marks.

Thats not an easy answer as for normal paint correction purposes they actually use a range of light colour temps (mind you its easy to spend $200+ on just one 50w LED multi-temp lamp - https://www.waxit.com.au/collections/lighting)
LED is the way to go.  For home use look for 2700k, 4500k and 6500k which will give you a good overall view, so just buy some LED floro tubes on ebay or bulbs or the like.

If the bike looks like crap in the sunlight though, I would start with the tools/products/processes your using.  you should be able to get to 90% good in a shed with the right kit and 100% in a shed with kit + lighting

the initial problem started with the leaf blower, i used it for to long instead of just blowing off the worst of the water so in effect it dried it to quik and hence the water stains. did end up getting them off and i have just this morning had it coated with toughseal and its looking great again .. but still my lighting is shit house and i need better : )

Heck BD. Straight diesel would be cheaper and you won't have kiwis following you down the road

I use 2 20 inch LED light bars and have them on the shed wall. Cant beat the LED stuff. Might be an over kill, but I can see what I have missed when cleaning and servicing

Don't see having the bike in the shed well lit is 'overkill'. I still recommend LED headlamp for cleaning in the shed, especially to see under the bike & under the guards etc - ceiling or wall lighting just wont do it!

I wash mine outside under the portable awning, then move it back into the shed after I dry it off to complete the paint, alloy and chrome polishing, and the wax coat on paint. My shed has huge doors so pretty much have good natural light with the overhead fluros as well..

yesterday i had the ultra  toughseal coated , its looking good so be nice to keep it that way.. looking at buying a led stand light that ive seen on ebay ..(arlec  20 w- 1600 lumens)
dunno if thats any good or not but it must be better than a single standard buld in the middle of my garage roof lol. .. by the way does anybody else use any of the toughseal products ?

Be keen to understand if they did a paint correction prior to applying the toughseal.

4 banks of double fluro's in the shed with a couple of the opaque roof sheets which let quite a bit of light in.

Like to do a decent job when detailing but don't get too carried away, they get dirty pretty quick!

I recently revisited meguires wet look polish for the bikes after only using Harley polish. Impressive. Reasonably economical, Easy to apply and polish off.
