Hi guys. Just a quick question. We have all heard about some of the sumping issues on the M8's but does it affect all the new Softail range or just the touring bike's. I  have test ridden a few the new Softail models and I do like them. Of course if you talk to any Harley dealer and ask questions about the sumping issues they say there is no such thing on the Softail range of bike's and the sumping issues doesn't affect the 107 motors I like to find out if that's true or not. Ok just looking at a 2019 Low Rider it's standard except for the pipes but I can't get this sumping issue out of my mind so I have held off getting serious about buying this bike so far. Btw I also heard some of the M8's have blown rear head gaskets anyone no if this is true or false cheers.

Thanks for the replies so far. I just sold my Evo Softail and myself going onto 60 years old this year I thought I buy one last Harley. I do like the M8 Softail range but since I will have to finance some of the asking price for the Low Rider the last thing I want is the worry about slumping or blown head gasket. Anyway I keep doing some research to find out what is fact or what is fiction cheers.

Used the search on the phone. Got about 20 hits. Mostly about sumping and what it is / is not. Site owner not going to improve the functionality.
Not all members will have reported whether their own bikes have had issues.
Having said that. When I bought my 14 103 Ultraglide, the big issue was failing water pump. I asked around. Members who had that model reported dud pumps. My Harley mechanic said it was unlikely. I bought the bike. Water pump shit itself. Got a couple I told you sos but I simply replaced it and got on with it.
Traded that bike on a sh 18 m8 ultra knowing of issues. So far after 32k, no issues. Bike is a dream. I don’t ride it hard though and it has no engine upgrades.
If something happens, I’ll curse but just roll with it, have it fixed and keep riding.
Don’t let the worry of what “might” happen dissuade you from getting and enjoying the bike of your dreams. You only live the once.
Imagine if you’d gone for that cruise of a lifetime.
Still got my 03 soft tail deuce with 115k of trouble free riding so I trade that against any issue I might have on the new one.
Harley Harley Harley. Oi oi oi

Like the thought pattern Steelo. Just do your research and get on with it, my twin cam has been a shit fight from 7000klm onwards. I now know every bang and clunk so just going to run it till the end, currently has 72k on her but have had a great time doing half of Australia on it.  You want trouble free motoring buy a Jap bike!

Choco, in old days, you could buy a used Harley and have Sumping issues, but there was no internet , So you could not post it online for the world to know about. I could write down a huge list of possible causes , for old Harleys to wet sump.
but the new M8's are a good bike, I have been given one to ride as far as I wanted by a mate that just bought it, I took it for a 100k ride, was bone stock, & I mentioned that was the best running bone stock off show room floor Harley I have ridden. he is also a long time Harley rider & agreed. buy it ride it enjoy it!! It comes with two year unlimited K warranty.
Funny thing was I was riding my old Sporty that excites me every ride & a guy I was riding with had oil leaking from his late BMW fork seals, he was upset as it was going over a Lenz of a crash camera he has mounted to the bike. so I said an old trick wrap a rag around & the just over the seal, then I said some sound advice, Don't buy BMW car or bike as can't trust them!! lol he laughed. just saying nothing is perfect.

Dicko it's like the twin cam A and B engines, enough differences to make a difference.

Looked at buying a new Fatboy in November last year. Asked the question about the sumping to the salesguy, who was until recently the shops mechanic. He said the sumping only affected the tourers and not the softtails. He explained why but I've forgotten what he said as I didn't buy the bike.

My 114 heritage has 7,000 kms on it so far.
I’ve checked the oil levels a few times and everything is good.
