Don't understand the qld border closures. A person I know who lives in Brisbane drove over the border to visit friends and stay the weekend down near Ballina. Had no trouble at all. I was under the impression that you couldn't cross unless it was work related or for compassionate reasons

Your mate is in breach of the current restrictions as you have described.

Hey Pauly, NSW open so free to come in just isolate for two weeks before returning, thats how I saw it.

From my reading, plenty entering Qld won’t need to quarantine if haven’t been O/S or from a known COVID hotspot.
    https://www.qld.gov.au/border-pass

The Qld govt also has a list of checkpoints where cars and occupants are meant to be checked. I’ve also heard some border crossings have been locked. Maybe you mate found somewhere where the checkpoint was operating or the road isn’t monitored?

I applied for a permit to ‘enter’ Qld and received it today. Will see how the checkpoints work for myself in a few weeks. Hoping the borders are open by then but who knows at this point.

Apparently he drove down the M1 and came back the same way. Never stopped at the checkpoint. Maybe they were on a smoko break. My money is on the border being opened within a day or two after the qld school holidays, make people here spend their holidays in qld to help the economy then open up after so those south of the border can come up and spend their money during their school holidays. I would be very surprised if the closure went longer than that

Here in Bundyberg we have a backpacker who tested positive,  To get to Bundy you change planes in brisbane. He flew in from melbourne last week. and worked on a farm. so contacted people all over the place.
Now in isolation and everyone who has contacted him now has to be tested.
I Guess the border is not actually closed.!!

Dicko the crazy thing is the border is open for certain things and bizarrely work is classified as a essential reason to allow travel to the state but you need to sign a declaration regarding your travel and health

What is a bit strange to me about that, Dicko, is why he wasn’t in mandatory self-isolation? Melbourne is a COVID hotspot, like most of Sydney, after all.
Doesn’t help if you sat near him on a plane but the Qld govt directive says he should have been in quarantine or could prove he did 14 days iso before he left.

yeah, I suppose no one asked for proof of isolation, he lied. or if you fly there is no restriction, beats me !!!
there are planes flying everywhere, crossing borders at will it seems. some are cargo but some are passenger , corporate jets etc.
Border only closed to grey nomad with caravan???  Everyone else has some sort of excuse to cross.???

As at 1549 Tuesday afternoon, no NRL player has tested positive. I think you will find it was the AFL that has a problem....because Victoria has a problem.

And the only Vic based side have been relocated to a different state. We now have two teams not based in their own state/country.

The NRL team isn’t infected, and apparently after four tests it turns out the Essendon player doesn’t have the virus. Victoria is falling apart!

Just came on the tail end of this conversation.
OK. what are we referring to? Covert -19 restrictions.
My beautiful wife has number 2 daughter in Townsville, just with baby, and needs her mother -- shitloads, (Normally a  strong very professional woman, I -mean on the mark girl)
but has given birth, and is one sick puppy, her mother cannot go to her immediately as we are in Mexico.
    Doing the absolute right procedure.
Is there extenuating circumstances?  Sorry I should a read up more on thge footy.
