There was only the f1 or f2.  F1 single front disc. F2 daul disc. At the time u could either have the k6. 4 pipes. Or f1 about $1600.  Exhaust header diffrent between f or k series..  The next f boldor series were twin cams

Thanks Bob, It's an F2. Not sure there is any difference tween F2 and F3.

Gotta admit I’m not up with all the variations but I recall the F3 had black cases/barrels like yours.
    Sure looks good man.
I came across a guy recently and stored away he has a K0 (for the purists yes there wasn’t a K0 but that’s what we call em, get over it)
a K1, K2, K4, F1 and F2 all with just a few thousand miles. The K1 had original tyres, probably Japanese air in them 😎. All in excellent condition and importantly original.
    Talk about shed envy.
Hope you post more pics of your progress.

Well then, that picture of the manual would suggest the F3's were 1978 models. The F2's were 1977.
The engine numbers on a F3 were CB750(*)-3100001 and up. * number may contain F and or E. And yes the motors were all black except the points and clutch cover.
Honda were pretty keen in model updates with at least one every year from 69-79.

Still staggering along with this build. Waiting on a tiny little oil seal that goes in the oil pump. One great thing about these old Honda fours is you can get just about any bit you want for them, but you have to wait..... Sometimes even for the bits to be made just like the tiny oil seal that was posted 3 weeks ago from pommyland.
Was going to re-spray the tank black and had the proper water transfer decals from Germany to make a top notch job job of it.
Funny how your plans can change.
The tank had shovel fulls of bog under the paint.
I had noticed rust inside the tank beforehand and was quite prepared to install one of those POR tank liners inside before re-spraying. They are pretty good quality tank liners if you have a rusty tank.
After taking all the paint off the tank it was obvious the tank had been punctured and welded/brazed back up as well.
Other dents were well represented, plus it looked like the bog had been sanded back by rubbing the tank on a very rough gravel road.

Sorry to hear fc. It’d make me cry.
But you see it all the time on those car mod / restore shows. Owner thinks it’s ok. Restorer strips it and it’s toast. They get to work and the finished product is show quality. Hang in there.

Not crying Steelo, just swimming laps of my booze pool and hit the post button accidentally.
To cut a boring tank story short, I have decided to just polish the bejeezus out of my rough tanks bare metal then spray it with several coats of 2 pack clear. It may just look killer.
Not going to frig round with bog and paint to try and make this look like a good tank. Dent free professionally painted ones are available

can see were your coming from FC , would be good if could get the dents out first.
most of the clear coat bare metal jobs I've seen lately, they let the surface rust first.

I wasn’t suggested “you” were crying fc. “I “ would be, being a bit pedantic. They breed em tough in tassie.
IMHO I can’t see the point in putting the damaged tank (warts and all) back on with the other perfection you have achieved. It’s not like digging out bog and painting clear is giving it a “patina”. It’s not a rat rod bike.
Keep the tank for posterity if you must but install a new repo one if you can’t repair the old. Love your work.

I hear what you are saying Steelo.
The new tanks I mentioned are currently unavailable in the colour I am after but they will be available again. They cost a couple of grand with side covers and postage from Japan. Or, there are aftermarket replica tanks available in primer from England for about $750 delivered, that I could paint black. As I am not 100% certain what might happen when I hit the starter for the first time I am happy to use this tank until I know all is good.
The 1970's Flake Sunrise Orange looks the business to me.

Dents? Nah that’s patina or add a row of similar dents following the same line around the tank, give it that Steam Punk look.

The tank has patina in spades Ratrob. I can only assume the whole bike had a punishing past, the frame was bent to buggery, wrong type of tacho was on it, rear mudguard looked like the bike had been end for ended, the motor (750F2 type) that was in the bike when I bought it was not the same engine numbers that was stated on the out of date rego papers. Assume the original one was busted in a crash or blown up, cooked etc.
See where the tank has been welded/brazed up in the picture.
