Bottom ends are special and shops usually farm them out rather than lose workshop space for the occasional work.

Lots of gear, time and someone that knows their shit as well.
Anything under 1.5 thou should be OK.
Thats also why Harley went to chains inside their motors to take up the extra runout provided this century.
    Regards,
    B.B.

Hey BB,  just following this thread out of interest.
Can you explain please why you said 1.5 thou or less for runout?  I'm no expert, but that sounds like way too much to me?
What is so different with M8?
    Thanks.

** UPDATE ** .. Hi Guys .. well got the Beast back last week .. All new top end Valve Springs .. New 2020 upgraded Oil Pump .. Fuelling Reaper 465 Cam , plus inner Cam Bearing and all associated Seals and Gaskets .. Barrels Honed and reringed .. Full Service , running Syn 3 in engine and Primary and Harley 80 / 140 in Gear box .. So Smooth and Super easy Gear changes .. S.E. 55 mil alloy intake with Original Throttle Body and 5.5 injectors .. S.E. plugs .. Fuelling Lifters .. S.E. adjustable pushrods as the Original Stage 4 motor had True fits in there .. Head was slightly decked and Compression is now close to 11.5 to 1 .. Didn`t want to go much further than that on a bike that is ridden in all types of conditions .

Inner Primary Vent kit done , didn`t have any issues before but at only $ 55 for the Vent kit I reckon it was a no brainer to get it done while everything was apart and save a little on Labour .

So the Big one .. the Crank / Flywheels .. Successful repair , Stitch Lock weld and Trued , a touch under 1.5 thou runout , Very Happy with that considering it had 8.0 thou runout before .. I realise the Factory Specs for the M8`s said 12.0 thou was Ok .. But there was no way I was going to be comfortable with that .

Adam76 .. 1.5 is actually pretty good , as mentioned above the Factory reckons 12.0 thou was acceptable .. not for me it wasn`t .. Shit load more Labour cost but I can sleep well at night knowing now it is Ok .. Fingers Crossed , Lol .. Added Bonus is that Olli .. { the guy who did the work } .. reckons they are a pretty good Crank / Flywheel once they have been set up correctly of course .

For the people more knowing than myself .. they used the wording .. Stitch Lock Weld and Trued .. is that different to Welded and Balanced or more or less the same .

Dyno numbers dropped a tad due to the machine that Wacker's use .. they say their machine reads consistently 5 to 7 Hp and Torque less than their previous machine but gives truer results .. me I am not up on how different Dyno`s work .. all I know is that it Definitely feels more Gruntier down low and overtaking trucks and vehicle's is a lot easier .. have not given it a huge Thrashing as yet as just taking it easy bedding in the new rings .

Old Figures were 129 Hp now 121 .. Torque was 120 now 127 .. I`m just Happy it feels Stronger .. I knew the Hp would drop considering I replaced the S.E. 515 Power Cam with the Reaper 465 Torque Cam and if what they say is correct then the Torque figures would be 132 plus on the other type of Dyno .. either way not to shabby for a mid range M8 build .

Still have a rear brake light staying on issue but not connected to anything Wacker`s have done .. think it is down to the Ciro3d Can Bus Controller playing up but still chasing that down .

So for now with Fingers and everything else crossed I can a few years of Trouble free riding done .. knowing me of course something will pop up that will have my hand reaching for the wallet again .. one of these days there is going to be nothing in the wallet when I open it , Lol .

Cheers one and all and thanks Very Much for any advice and feel free to ask any questions .. Tim .
