Funny video there - that slow-talking American drawl, the video is 3 times longer than it had to be!
    It's a "clicky-click" as he says - not grinding.
Check battery terminals connections & voltage.

Yeah I've already checked the terminals and earth bolts on the frame. I actually went out in the garage to see if I can get video of the noise and the battery is totally dead Wideglider.

In an odd way that’s good news MB, the notion of grinding had me perplexed, a simple battery swap should see you right.

Just an update. I was touching base with the guy at Wackers this morning and he thinks it may be the regulator/rectifier. I will know more hopefully this afternoon.

Yeah, clicking starter, flat battery can be all symptoms of charging system faults (alternator, rectifier, regulator). The workshop should have put your battery on charge first thing before starting any other work, you might not necessarily need a new battery if it isn't that old.

Yeah but that leads to question why it's gone flat so quick? It gets started every second day and warmed up, for that very reason. If it is the battery, it leads me to think what was mentioned earlier by Greasemonkey. It's blown a cell.

Just got word back from Wackers and it's the regulator fellas. Easy fix thank goodness for that.

My '12 Widey is supposed to have dash display alerts for under or over charging, surprised a 2018 model doesn't.

Umm it boils the battery when you start charging it at 17volts when the rectifier plays up and that melts the plates....my suggestion is to insist on a new battery as well

Doesn't matter Pauly, because if it stuffs up again they take it back again.

Understand but one inconvenience is better than two....and these things tend to let you down far from home

Agree with you there loopie.  Just starting it for the sake of "warming it up" is totally pointless.
It is also  counter-productive because most wear and tear on a motor is done at start up.
And the expansion thing and bearing clearances etc don't come into play until the motor and gearbox is hot.
Not saying its gonna hurt the engine or battery but I am saying "warming it up" every two days is  not the go.

Cool. It's just paranoia as I think the battery will go flat. How long can it sit before going flat?

MB, am I understanding correctly that you when you are not riding you just start bike every second day?
If this is the case then you are taking a lot out of the battery to start the bike & it will not have a chance to recharge, it will take 20 minutes or more of riding to do this.
Buy yourself a battery charger & leave it on 'trickle' charge to keep it at its optimum.

I'm assuming it regulates the voltage  traveling throughout the bike?

Regulator/Rectifier. The regulator/rectifier on your motorcycle performs two functions. The rectifier portion converts the AC power from the alternator into DC power so that it can charge the battery. The regulator ensures that the voltage is delivered within certain limits, as not to damage the battery. So when thats fucked , like mine did twice i saw the volt guage hit 17 v several times

Now that you've explained that, I understand where you're coming from in regards to the strain on the regulator. What I'm trying to understand is the battery boiling?
