Currently have a 2013 Fatboy and am thinking about trading up to a 2020 114 Fatboy. Been thinking about it for a while but going to test ride tomorrow. Dealer reckns a test ride will make my mind up as these new Fatboys are chalk and cheese to the older ones. Currently 2.99% on finance. Opinions on these M8's.
Different people will have different opinions, but I'll ask. Missus say's do it, but I'm not sure. I know, usually the other way around.
Anyone out there gone from a 103 to one of the M8's. Pro's, con's.

I bought the sportglide m8 107 .. love riding that .. shortly after I bought a 2014 ultra 103 .. the 107 is way smoother .. having said that the 107 is bog standard and the 103 has been cam,d .. the wife enjoys the ride on the sportglide but prefers the comfort of the ultra ... SO .. she now wants me to trade in the ultra for a brand new 107 or 114 ultra , wife’s !!!! .. who,d av em ; /

Thanks wello. Wouldn't trade my missus. She's telling me to buy but it's me in two minds.

Yeah mickle, he hinted at a trade in value and it was close to what I thought. It just means there will be haggling.

Yeah, he already said the price is fixed due to finance, but to get a sale, we will see. And he is a new salesman coming out of the workshop, so I feel he will push for a sale extra hard.

Shop around for finance, you may get a good rate elsewhere, and have room to get the floor price lower as the cost of the reduced finance is bunged onto the sake price.
The illawarra credit union had 4 percent on new vehicle loans, mine was 6 percent I think as the bike wasn't new but under 5 years old.
    Enjoy the test ride.
    Cheers

I have just gone from a wideglide 103 to a 2020 lowrider S 114 and am very happy with my decision, the 114 has a great amount of torque, pulls well from 100k's in top gear (unlike the 103), You should get a good deal on a 2019 run out Fatboy, although the 2020 models have the upgraded oil pump (my20 pump) I haven't ridden a m8 fat boy, but I liked the breakout with the huge rear tyre and all (they don't handle as bad as some would have you believe

Hey Soft, I don’t know where you are situated but if you haven’t already get whatever deal in writing and shop it to some other dealers not linked to the one you are dealing with.
Sure they will all say it’s dependant on the trade BUT if there’s room to move on pricing it will become obvious pretty quick. Take that better price back your dealer and get them to better it. Give ‘em 48 hours. Worked for me.
I find it hard to believe there isn’t flexibility in the price despite finance. Canberra HD has the below deal. When was the last time you heard HD were selling too many bikes??

Went and test rode the M8 Fatboy. Acceleration is incredible. Apparently the fly by wire throttle response is adjustable via software and would explain the either throttle off or on power response on this demo bike. It had Vance and Hines slip on's with stage one tune and throttle response turned up to either on or off. Very smooth to ride with no vibrations. Engine quieter that earlier engines. Gear changes were clunky with neutral being hard to get when stopped. Salesman said the clutch needed adjusting accounting for the clunk and hard to hit neutral. Harder to go round corners than my Fatboy due to the big back tyre, something that a rider would have to get used to. Power and torque is something else. Turn the throttle and it just goes. Fatboy engine is a wet sump now, unlike before having the oil tank and dry sump. Heads are cooled by oil (I thought they were water cooled) with 2 oil lines going across the top of the heads. Overall the bike is impressive, but the quoted changeover price dulls that impressive.
Seems the 2.99% isn't all it's dressed up to be. I'm going to talk further with the salesman tomorrow so won't say anything about it now.
Thanks to the people giving me their feedback.

Oh, and another thing, the 2.99% is only on 2020 (MY20) bikes. Also, the engine doesn't run as hot as the earlier Fatboy's. Stopped at traffic lights you didn't get the heat rise up from the engine like you do with the earlier engine.

The demo had 3500k's so I thought it would of been smoother. I think you're right wello, needs wearing in.

Thanks for the update. Hm, I’m not convinced. I had my heart set on a new Fatboy. The one I rode had 5000k on it and still cluncked, maybe it could be adjusted maybe not.
While you’ve mentioned it briefly, it’s the handling that did my head in. I live in the Adelaide Hills and I’m not convinced it wasn’t trying to kill me.
Did you give it a run in any higher speed twisty bits ?

Hey softfat, good luck with your decision mate and while I haven't ridden the m8 fatboy I have watched a mate taking a roundabout and it looked like a task for sure. May just have to familiarize yourself, but the new chassis and suspension is heaps better. I borrowed a streetbob and ended up looking for every bump and curve I could find - awesome. I think the fatboy has less rear suspension travel than most of the other softail models, may be worth trying some out unless you are completely sold on the fatty.
The m8 is still a dry sump engine, just they now have the oil tank below the gearbox.
I've just clocked 25000kms on my m8 SGS and live it.
Is the 2.99% interest rate a 'comparison' rate?
If so, see what the actual rate is and look around like has been suggested.
    Cheers

I wasn't game enough to give it a decent run through twisty's. I have ape's on my Fatboy, and going to standards bars was enough of a challenge. Handling was what I struggled with also. The sales guy said it takes a while to get use to the big fat tyre and it's characteristics.

Yes Doc, a comparison rate. Suspension is heaps better than my Fatboy, even with Progessives on mine. The oil tank thing is interesting as he explained it was now a wet sump. Maybe I miss heard how he explained it.

Soft are you sure? 2.99% comparison is very good but it ain’t what is being advertised.

Saying that, anything below 4% is good in my books.
