Not sure what idle speed thats down to but would be interested as to the oil pressure at that low idle. My twin cam needs to be around 900rpm to maintain pressure

Not only oil pressure could be too low but the alternator voltage may be too low to charge the battery, in start/stop traffic the battery suffers, shortens its life.

    sprung him!
when it idles sounds  a bit like a normal HD but when it rev's sounds funny. but if I had one I would not go to the trouble of converting to carb when they run ok as they come stock & are ride by wire.

Yeah think I tuned mine to around 948rpm, can’t see the sense in going to all the trouble of a carby conversion just for idle when you can simply dial it up in your EFI tune.
Also, carbs and unleaded don’t get along real well.

Guys, please read, it is NOT EFI anymore, it's a Carburetor Milwaukee 8, that's why.

The carbie is a good start. Let me know when they've got one with points ignition.

Smokey if you want points, you could probably add a set, or you could add two, I prefer the electronic trigger as I've never had trouble & I also prefer the electronic advance.

What Ratbob is saying you can do the same low idle speed, if thats your thing, WITHOUT doing all that using the stock efi thru your tuner.

mic I think we know that, also looks like it has a thunder jet . all a waist of time, as if someone knows how to tune & knows how to map EFI  & also EFI with ride by wire. they can set them up how they want.
I have no trouble with the carb on my sporty, but it came with a carb, I don't see anyone having trouble with EFI , if they leave it as it is. the new Harleys have so many modern improvements. just changing ignition & adding a Carb & throttle cable , is not going to make any improvement & as you could hear it does not sound the same when it rev's up. simple fact is the new chamber & valve set up make it more efficient . Same as Panheads sound different to Shovelheads & Shovelheads sound different to Evo's. but simple fact, they are all Harleys take your pick, but don't try to imitate as they are all different. just enjoy what you have. and I hope you all get time to enjoy a ride!!

Good point, it’s probably the biggest downgrade O can think of, much like
    Moving to those Fat spokes,
    Sticking in a 240 rear,
    Raking the front end,
    V&H Big Radius 2-2,
    24” Apes,
none enhance performance but we’re mostly guilty of it at some stage.

True, not an upgrade. If your bike is carb nothing wrong there - my Evo been running with carb no issues for 24 years. Overhauled it only twice, not because had issues but just thought I should as part of maintenance, enjoyed doing it because I learnt a little.
If a had an EFI bike though it would stay that way, far superior setup with performance and options for tuning etc.

Don't get me wrong, I would never convert an M8 to a Carb' , but regarding performance, a decent Carb setup will be a very close
    match to EFI.
Ease of tuning, I would give it to the Carb'. You will never get perfect fueling, but there are also a lot of bad EFI tunes out there !
Ride-ability and cold start etc' , EFI hands down.

Agree, ease of tuning the carb is an art I enjoy & it wins for me, but not everyone can or is interested in tackling that. New boys just want to tune EFI by plugging in their laptop (or Bluetooth with mobile) and of course this is the future (I plugin to adjust my aftermarket ignition map).
