Flip up full face helmet

    Hi guys just looking for a bit of advice. Starting to think about a flip up full face helmet as I get older comfort wise they could be better on a longer ride than a open face. Now the main reason I want to try a flip up helmet is that I suffer a medical issue where my top and bottom jaw are not aligned and having tried full face helmets after a couple hours I feel a lot of pressure and then the headaches start. So thinking maybe a flip up helmet would be the way to go at least I could open it up and give my jaw a rest on a longer ride. Ok sorry for the long winded post I can't wear a full face and I don't want to spend a huge amount of money on a flip up helmet just in case it doesn't help so any feedback on a good helmet would be appreciated.

    Choco, I was looking at modular helmets recently and tried on the AGV carbon ( cant remember exact model), helmet was fairly light compared to other modular helmets ive tried on and is very easy to open. In the end I didn't purchase it due to personal reasons but it's well worth a look and try on to see if it fits your melon.

    i recently bough a modular helmet from the states .. mostly for the color match to my bike .. cost me around $230 and only 10 for fedex postage, the helmet is fine and its good enough for me .. however i just bought my wife a (shark evo one two) and i got this for the main reason of being able to flip the chin guard all the way over to the back of the helmet therefore then being able to use as an open face as well , its got the drop down sun visor also.
    there arent to many modular "flip up " helmets that have that chin guard design and it would be handy for riding at higher speeds without the wind trying to rip ur helmet off whilst still riding if you try lifting it up.

    Hi mate u I have bought a Shoei Neotech 2. Had a 1 and would say this is a big step up. Very comfortable. I had a shark and found it very heavy. Very pleased with the Neotech 2. Not cheap though.

    i wouldnt call the shark evo VERY heavy at all .. in fact it feels lighter than my shoei .. personally i think shoeis are way over priced and hes looking for a reasonable priced helmet .

    I thought I needed a new lid , something smaller and "cooler"  just for local runs. I went to a shop that  had at least a hundred different lids on the shelf and tried heaps of them on. I wasnt too worried about the price but I wasnt going to go stupid either. I was trying to find a balance between not looking like a bubblehead and comfort. I will take a few pics and get back.

    I have been an open face helmet fan for 30+ years. But as I've aged the wind noise has become more annoying especially when trying to listen to music and GPS directions. So last year after trying a number of helmets I settled on the HD FXRG, made by HJC. Not cheap!!!
    It has proved a very good buy. Great fit, light and can travel at freeway speeds with it open without any drag. Lots of good built in ventilation when closed. Note I ride a Road Glide so has a good screen to assist in wind deflection.

    Sorry about the dodgy pics but the one on the left was bought at my local shop. I needed one there and then and they only had a couple to choose from so I went for the cheapest one thinking I would get something better later on. 
    The one on the right is the one I bought after trying on heaps in the shop. It felt comfy in the shop but after 15 minutes on the bike it feels like shit.
    The one on the left with the flip up visor is very good. You can ride around at 80 kph with it up and if you want to go faster than that you flip it down.
    I think the brand name was THH or something like that and it cost about $150.

    If you get one of these ones Choco it doesnt put any pressure on your jaws. 
    Its like an open face helmet with a visor you can use when you want.

    im pretty sure hes looking for a modular helmet guys .. flip front chin piece .. not the flip visor

    Thanks everyone for your helpful replies.  My biggest problem is that where I live we only have one bike shop in town and they have a few helmets in store nothing like they have in the bigger city stores. In June I having 2 weeks holiday's I turn sixty that month so I  going to go to the Sunshine Coast check out the bike shops there and shout myself a new helmet for my birthday cheers.

    I tried shitloads of em on Choco and bought one that didnt fit.
    Check out the THH ones.  They are good.

    Keep heading 35min further down the highway to these guys. Cheaper, more range, will get stuff from their other shop up for you and great to deal with.

    Agree or AMX Caboolture, blokes there are great to deal with also and bigger range.

    Try Sunstate Motorcycles Maroochydore. Good selection there too. Last 3 or 4 helmets have come from there. The missus got a Shoei j cruise for $450 down from $700.

    Yes had an old mate of mine who came unstuck on Saturday he is a bit banged up and in hospital. He said lucky he had a full face helmet on and a leather jacket or it could of been worse for him. So heading down to Sunstate Motorcycles in the next 2 weeks to have a look also hopefully get a bargain coming up to the end of the financial year.

    I use a HJC flip helmet here in Thailand, great helmet, cost about $275 aud here in Thailand..................keep in mind they have different size cheek liners, made all the difference when i swapped to a smaller size cheek liner, they are removable........................also my Sena bluetooth fits inside the internal pockets built in, also has a drop down tinted visor which I rarely use, I ride with sunglasses.
    The benefits are in the hot weather and slow riding or at traffic lights I flip it up, get into serious riding and its a fullface..............I tried the Shark flips overhere and couldnt get a comfortable fit, the 2xl HJC fits my bowling ball shaped head perfectly.

    Another thing I now use all the time is a balaclava, can put the mouth cover under my chin, I cant believe how much cooler it is and stops your head sweating inside the helmet, never ride with out one now.
