A chunk is the MCIS 'levy' mate -- that's the NSW government getting you to pay an additional tax to cover morons that don't have insurance when they crash.

Government were so smart they tied the levy cost to CTP and make the insurers collect it.

Otherwise, yes CTP prices are a rort. No discount for single seat either. According to insurers, a single seat HD can cause more damage than a Holden full of people.

Wondering if anybody else on here has gone through monaland,he advertised through this forum.
Just got a quote for the FatBob for $473
Members of this forum get the fleet discount offered through motorcycling Australia to Ulysses's club members....or something along those lines
    Seems like a good deal
    Cheers

I would look at 3rd party so at least if at fault you would not have to pay for it, gives you a chance to buy another bike and get back riding.

I don't call it CTP anymore

I call it a luxury tax which we pay for the luxury of riding our bikes.

I didn't mean ctp. You can get insurance that covers damage you cause but not your own property, it used to be cheaper than comprehensive great for young blokes in cheap shit boxes, don't wind up owing for damage to a Bugatti.

Paulybronco - I can answer this question if not for me but perhaps a few others in the same situation....In my 20's I purchased the 'top' of line BMW and the insurance was then for a young fella about 20% of the purchase price.
I paid it for the first 12 months to get the rip off high interest young fella's loan for the bike. From year two to when sold 25 years later I rode it uninsured with the insurance dollars in my bank account.
Now I am older, & perhaps a bit? smarter, worked hard and now have some bucks in reserve. I still dont (never have) insure the much loved HD coz apart from the fight getting them to admit to liability -  I can just afford to pay the damage costs anyway. Fuck them and if I do have a prang it's gunna be resolved by a cheque book.
I think that over the years insurance company's have trained many like sheep. For example - back in the 70's everyone had contents insurance coz internal stuff was very saleable at the pub...today it's worth peanuts. The average break in now is by a junkie who takes your DVD player & runs off to the dealer via the pub...so we pay mega bucks each year to replace a 50 buck pub sale???
Home insurance is a must if you own your own home coz a burn down means your financial life is destroyed. Apart from that I recon all other insurance can be reviewed - as long as you have the financial back up to tell them to 'get stuffed'!!

I thought the reason the maximum payout from insurance companies isn't so high because you might damage a BMW/ Merc/ Ferrari etc....it's in case you damage a person coz they tend to cost a lot more.  Am I wrong?

With Youi, and full comp ins on one car, it was nice thought to be able to prove I was not at fault when a truck veered into my lane and hit the car at Christmas. They waived the standard excess and were able to go after the other parties insurer. Didn't cost me anything and my premiums even reduced this year.
I had the other car just third party fire and theft. Was involved in a no fault collision with a AAMI insured driver. AAMI would not even entertain my claim UNTIL their driver had reported the collision and paid his excess. THEN, they couldn't have been more helpful and had the car fixed at no cost. Had he not been insured, or never reported it, or paid his excess, I'd have been left with no option but to sue him or wear the damage.

You may be right about killing a car although a mate years ago totalled a ford ltd tank at 60kph when he hit between front and rear doors and destroyed centre pillar, not repairable but he was not at fault and compo payout got his first Harley plus a Bonneville for his missus and a large deposit on a house. When you consider modern cars are designed to collapse in an accident killing one is easier than ever.

And - to get back to the original greenslip topic.....
Mine is here and gunna get paid this week. It's from QBE and for 6 months they are charging $242.53. As with every year I did the on line comparo and their price is the best. I thought it was quite reasonable. Others on the list were very much higher.

Just got my greenslip in from Shannons. $497 for 12 months. You must have the bike/car insured with Shannons to get a greenslip for that bike/car. When Shannons send out the greenslip, it's from GIO but at Shannons price. For the same greenslip from GIO, it is dearer. Go figure.

    hm...

So yesterday I got in touch with Shannon discussing the possibility to insure my 1981 FLHC
Discussed the possibility of full cover and just 3rd party insurance (since I hadnt made up my mind where I wanted to assess the difference in premium etc)
Got the quote emailed through where they managed to get model of the bike wrong, year of the bike wrong, years I held a license wrong...
Only quote sent through were for the full cover

Called them up today wanting to get these issues rectified and ended up with a complete prick.
Shannon do not have records of a 1981 FLHC model - instead wanted to jot down it being a FLHTC (Tourglide)
Shannon made claim that a vintage bike only apply to 1940's or so - making claim that my now 36 year old bike not qualify as a vintage bike (refusing to accept the 25 year bracket when it come to this)
The guy went on asking questions about "any" modifications where I made it clear that it has bits and pieces and that it would take me a couple of hours outlining everything (even though its pretty much a stock bike) - Told him that the best option would be for me to bring it in for a personal inspection as this would become pretty hard and dragged out with little make any real sense to him - Pretty much landed in an argument when he went on about describing it as being a 100% unmodified bike where I then started to ask questions on how the hell they would be able to assess this when they dont even have the model listed - go figure.

When I made a request of receiving a 3rd party insurance quote as well (as earlier discussed with his college the day before), he stated that shannon refuse 3rd party insurance for my bike/year (apparently against their policy)

Have to say I am anything but impressed by my dealings with shannons and would probably not go there after this
In all likeyhood they would not pay out a cent should something happen since they would start to jerk me around with "modified or not" bits and pieces.
