Not doubting you mate but Why a grinding noise?
That could be a theory. Would that be stator related? The noise comes from directly below the seat. I don't know what's used to turn the bike over from under there, as I'm not mechanically inclined.
Yeah mate I’m no engineer either but as you said, the starter is pretty much directly under the seat. When you look at your huge Primary cover on the left side, the starter sits between the top rear two bolts, closer to the top right hand bolt. I imagine the grinding sound would be fairly high pitched as the teeth skirted across the gear.
If it is the starter, what would cause it to fail so early?
